Lil Red - SJ restoration - First Paint

Its time for painting to start!

First there were a couple of small repairs left to door, Earlier you would have seen small perforations that had appeared in the bottom of the door.

These were removed and cleaned out and then filler welds were added to create an all metal finish that was then smoothed back.

Similar steps were taken around the windscreen frame. There were some small spots of rust and some small performations at the corner of the screen

These were cleaned up to remove the rust and prepared for painting.

With all the repairs done it is into the paint shop for painting.

The SJ is an old design with many panels attached by external hinges (doors/windscreen/tailgate) or plates (Targa hoop). This means that they have to be painted off of the car body to ensure that the areas where the hinges/plates cover.

The paint being used is a Nexa (ICI) MS direct gloss 2 pack acrylic which is as close to what would have been put on in 1986. The paint code for this SJ is 21L on the VIN plate which is "Suzuki Peruchet Red".
